Clarity Of British Gas Tariffs
EDM number 239 in 2008-09, proposed by Lindsay Hoyle on 10/12/2008.
Categorised under the topics of Consumers and Oil, petrol and natural gas.
That this House questions the motives of the new British Gas Tariff Fixed Price 2012 that guarantees no energy increases until January 2012; notes with concern the failure of its website to make it clear that the tariff does not allow the customer to benefit from any decrease in energy prices; notes that the advertised terms and conditions make no mention of the options in the case of a decrease; questions the fee of £60 payable if the customer wishes to opt out of the tariff; is concerned that the lack of clarity about the tariff could result in the most vulnerable customers paying more for their energy than is necessary; and calls on British Gas to consider its moral responsibility as a market leader to avoid misleading customers when advertising their products.
