Evo Morales And The Bolivian Constitutional Referendum

EDM number 595 in 2008-09, proposed by Colin Burgon on 27/01/2009.
Categorised under the topic of International politics and government.

That this House welcomes the victory of Evo Morales in winning the Bolivian constitutional referendum in Bolivia with the support of around 60 per cent. of the electorate; notes that the new constitution provides for a more equal distribution of Bolivia's natural resources and land and also addresses the centuries-long discrimination faced by the majority indigenous population; and calls on the right-wing opposition who have engaged in sustained violence to subvert the democratic process to now accept the expressed will of the Bolivian people.

This motion has been signed by a total of 45 MPs, 1 of these signatures have been withdrawn.
