Speed Cameras And Road Safety

EDM number 1084 in 2010-12, proposed by Bob Russell on 23/11/2010.
Categorised under the topic of Roads.

That this House welcomes a report from the RAC Foundation which confirms that each year the presence of speed cameras prevents 800 people from being killed or seriously injured on Britain's roads, which means that not only are families spared the trauma of the loss of loved ones but also the national economy is saved in the region of 2 billion based on the estimated cost of road deaths and serious injuries; congratulates Professor Richard Allsop of University College London for undertaking the research and the RAC Foundation for commissioning it; and calls on the Government to prevail upon highways authorities to recognise the value of speed cameras in making the nation's roads safer and that removal of them would be a false economy.

This motion has been signed by a total of 19 MPs.
