Rory Mcilroy

EDM number 1941 in 2010-12, proposed by Gregory Campbell on 20/06/2011.
Categorised under the topic of Sports.

That this House recognises the outstanding performance of Rory McIlroy at the age of just 22 years in winning the US Open Golf Championship at the Congressional Club; acknowledges the justifiable pride his family and friends have expressed in his winning this prize at such an early age; further recognises that the people of Northern Ireland, a country of just 1.7 million people, are delighted to have had two consecutive winners of the US Open in Graham McDowell in 2010 and Rory McIlroy in 2011, an achievement unprecedented in modern golf for a country of that size, no other country outside the US having ever done so in the last 100 years; and expresses the hope that these victories will lead to a further increase in the numbers of visitors wishing to play golf in the location that has given birth to two of the finest golfers in the world today.

This motion has been signed by a total of 32 MPs.
