Walsall Samaritans 24:7 Event

That this House recognises the vital service provided by the Samaritans, which makes available confidential, 24-hour emotional support to everyone, every day of the year; congratulates Walsall Samaritans on their successful awareness day event at Walsall New Art Gallery on23 July 2011, during which an artwork donated free of charge by local artist Lynn Hughes was unveiled as part of the national Samaritans 24:7 art event being showcased at the Royal College of Art in London; notes that Walsall Samaritans was set up in 1969 and is staffed and managed entirely by volunteers and paid for by donations; further notes that for each of the last three years, Walsall Samaritans has seen an increase in contacts and that in 2010, 18,900 contacts were made with the branch; thanks the volunteers of the Walsall branch and other national branches for their commitment and service; and calls on the Government to support services such as the Samaritans which offer hope and support to those in need, 24 hours a day, every day of the year.
