International Institute For Environment And Development 40th Anniversary

EDM number 2298 in 2010-12, proposed by Joan Walley on 20/10/2011.
Categorised under the topic of Sustainable development.

That this House notes that the International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED) marks its 40th anniversary on 24 October 2011; further notes that IIED was launched in 1971 by the late Barbara Ward and was subsequently led with great passion and purpose by the late Richard Sandbrook and others; recognises that IIED has played a significant role in international progress on sustainable development over the years and has provided high quality advice to successive UK governments; commends IIED's effective blend of evidence, action and influence in partnership with others, linking local solutions to global policy-making; and believes that IIED's work is needed more than ever as governments try to face up to the inter-connected challenges of economic crisis, climate change, poverty and increasing pressure on water, forests and land.
