Values Of Boxing

EDM number 2744 in 2010-12, proposed by Greg Mulholland on 21/02/2012.

That this House condemns the actions of British heavyweight boxers David Haye and Dereck Chisora, whose brawl that took place during the post-fight press conference in Munich on 18 February 2012 has brought British boxing into disrepute and has undermined the proud values of the sport; further condemns the actions of Dereck Chisora who slapped his opponent Vitali Klitschko at the weigh-in, then spat in the face of the brother of his opponent, Wladimir Klitschko, in the ring before the fight began; further condemns the T-shirt worn by David Haye, which depicts him holding the decapitated heads of Vitali and Wladimir Klitschko; and calls on the British Boxing Board of Control to make clear that this kind of behaviour and lack of respect for opponents, including so-called trash talk, is not acceptable, and that they must restore the core values of boxing, still proudly evident in amateur boxing and other professional British boxers, to British heavyweight boxing.
