Obesity And Type 2 Diabetes

EDM number 1288 in 2012-13, proposed by Keith Vaz on 22/04/2013.
Categorised under the topics of Diseases, Health education and preventive medicine and Obesity.

That this House welcomes research published in the Journal Cell Metabolism that has identified a key mechanism in the immune system involved in the development of obesity-linked type 2 diabetes; notes that it is hoped that the findings of the study, conducted by King's College London with funding from the UK Medical Research Council (MRC), will open new possibilities for the treatment and prevention of the condition; further notes that there are now three million cases of diabetes in the UK, with around 90 per cent of these cases being type 2; and calls on the Government to continue to protect budgets for funding institutions such as the UK MRC, so that they are able to continue supporting further research.

This motion has been signed by a total of 18 MPs.
