Unesco Forth Bridge Bid And Forth Bridge Memorial
EDM number 155 in 2012-13, proposed by Michael Crockart on 11/06/2012.
Categorised under the topic of Cultural heritage.
That this House celebrates the Forth Bridge coming a step closer to being designated a World Heritage Site after being chosen as one of two UK sites which will put forward nominations to UNESCO; recognises that the Bridge is an icon around the world and a feat of engineering; welcomes the nomination as a further tribute to the many thousands of individuals who have worked on the bridge during its construction and in the 130 years since; further welcomes the new Forth Bridge memorial erected in South Queensferry to commemorate the 73 men who died during construction; notes that the bronze memorial pays tribute to each individual with an inscription of their name, age and occupation; and congratulates the community of South Queensferry for being the driving force behind the initiative.
