Future Of 1st The Queen's Dragoon Guards

EDM number 251 in 2012-13, proposed by Elfyn Llwyd on 21/06/2012.
Categorised under the topics of Armed forces and Crown.

That this House believes that 1st The Queen's Dragoon Guards is a highly valued regiment with a long and distinguished history; further believes that the vast majority of its membership is drawn from Wales; notes that it is known as the Welsh Cavalry; further notes that it is the only Welsh armed division remaining and that cuts made to 1st The Queen's Dragoon Guards would be detrimental to army morale; further notes that up to 10,000 jobs could be put at risk through disbanding the Guards and that members of the regiment are often drawn from areas with high unemployment and few additional employment opportunities; further believes that cutting 1st The Queen's Dragoon Guards would be a disproportionate cut in the military impacting upon Wales; and calls for the retention of 1st The Queen's Dragoon Guards in its present state.
