Qatari Poet Mohammed Al-Ajami

EDM number 801 in 2012-13, proposed by Jeremy Corbyn on 30/11/2012.
Categorised under the topics of Human rights and Middle East.

That this House notes with alarm the detention of Qatari poet Mohammed al-Ajami for `insulting' the Emir of Qatar; further notes that al-Ajami was held in solitary confinement and has been charged with inciting to overthrow the ruling system, thus bringing into question the right of freedom of speech; further notes that the punishment he has received is life imprisonment; calls on the Government to make urgent representations to the government of Qatar concerning such extreme censoring of its citizens; and asks for his immediate release.

This motion has been signed by a total of 27 MPs.
