Murder Of Joanne Tregembo In 1995

EDM number 903 in 2012-13, proposed by Martin Caton on 09/01/2013.
Categorised under the topic of Crimes of violence.

That this House recalls the premeditated, brutal and prolonged murder of 20 year old Joanne Tregembo by Adam Campbell Fury, in Wales on 6 May 1995; notes that Fury was sentenced on 14 June 1996, with the judge stating in his summing up that `if, in many, many years anyone ever considered his release they must read the transcript very carefully' as he considered him a great threat to the public; is aware that Fury treated Joanne's grieving family with contempt during the trial and has stated his hatred for her mother and father subsequently; understands and sympathises with the fear for their own and others' safety that members of the Tregembo family feel, following the transfer of their daughter's murderer to open prison, introducing the possible prospect of his release on parole; and maintains that no prisoner convicted of murder should be released if this would present a real risk to any members of the public.

This motion has been signed by a total of 15 MPs.
