High Speed 2 And Funding For Wales

EDM number 833 in 2015-16, proposed by Jonathan Edwards on 08/12/2015.
Categorised under the topics of Public expenditure and Railways.

That this House condemns the Government's Statement of Funding Policy 2015 which gives Wales a zero per cent consequential from High Speed 2, while both Scotland and Northern Ireland will get 100 per cent; notes that zero per cent on the High Speed 2 programme line drastically reduces the Wales comparability percentage which is applied to calculate the overall Department for Transport Barnett allocation; further notes official figures from KPMG that show a total loss to the Welsh economy of between £122 million and £178 million per year as a result of High Speed 2 by 2037; and calls on the Government to change its Statement of Funding Policy to give Wales its fair share of consequential funding from High Speed 2.
