Future Of The RMS Queen Mary

EDM number 1031 in 2016-17, proposed by Martin Docherty on 08/03/2017.
Categorised under the topics of Cultural heritage and Shipping.

That this House notes with grave concern a recent report on the present condition of the RMS Queen Mary, permanently moored as a tourist attraction in California, that outlines a catalogue of faults which, unless addressed, could lead to the vessel being mothballed within a decade; believes that the historic Clydebank-built ocean liner is a testament to Scotland's rich industrial prowess and is one of the world's most iconic and historical vessels and should be protected as such; expresses its disappointment that the city authority of Long Beach has failed to carry out its duty of preserving and maintaining the vessel to the high standard that it was received in; calls on the Government to use its influence and urge the US Administration to intervene to bring about an end to this historic vandalism; recognises the part played by the RMS Queen Mary known as the Grey Ghost during World War II as troop carrier transporting 765,429 Allied troops; and further calls on the international community to come together and protect this global icon from being destroyed.

This motion has been signed by a total of 34 MPs.
