Junk Food Advertising To Children

That this House congratulates the Committee of Advertising Practice for banning advertising for food and drink which is high in fat, salt or sugar from all non-broadcast outlets which target those aged under-16; notes that the ban will come into effect in July 2017; further notes that the UK is the second most obese country in Europe with 19.1 per cent of children aged 10 and 11 are obese, with a further 14.2 per cent are overweight and 9.1 per cent of children aged 4 and 5 are obese with a further 12.8 per cent who are overweight; welcomes the decision to partly lift the ban on businesses using promotions or celebrities in adverts for healthier foods to young people; and urges the Committee of Advertising Practice and the Government to extend the ban on advertising for food and drink which is high in fat, salt or sugar across all broadcast and non-broadcast media.
