Promotion Of Bicycle Use

EDM number 712 in 2004-05, proposed by Nick Harvey on 09/02/2005.

That this House congratulates the Government on funding developments to transport routes in the South West in order to accommodate the huge numbers of visitors to the region; notes that in order to prevent further major road extensions the UK must develop combined transport strategies, paying particular attention to the role of the bicycle as a means of maintaining the health of the nation and reducing the huge numbers of cars on the roads; further notes the National Cycling Strategy Board's recommendations that more money and time be dedicated to developing a cycling policy in order to meet targets to quadruple the number of cyclists in the UK by 2012; and calls on this government to introduce traffic calming, reduction and management measures alongside the development of cycle lanes and tracks in order to encourage more people to get on their bikes and out of their cars.

This motion has been signed by a total of 52 MPs.
