Hms Cavalier
EDM number 810 in 1997-98, proposed by John Cummings on 18/02/1998.
That this House notes with regret that HMS 'Cavalier', the last remaining destroyer, is rotting in a berth at Tyneside and is about to be consigned to the scrapyard; remembers with pride the previous crews who served with distinction and valour; recognises the illustrious role played by HMS 'Cavalier' in the defeat of fascism; commends Bob Lamb and his twin brother, Fenwick, of Murton, Co. Durham, who both served in destroyers during the Korean War and who have worked tirelessly to raise money to save HMS 'Cavalier' as a memorial to the 30,000 men who gave their lives in the 153 destroyers sunk in action; and calls upon Her Majesty's Government to ensure that HMS 'Cavalier' is preserved for future generations through funding from the National Lottery.
