British Trust For Conservation Volunteers 4oth Anniversary
EDM number 235 in 1998-99, proposed by Lindsay Hoyle on 25/01/1999.
That this House congratulates the British Trust for Conservation Volunteers on its 40th anniversary and recognises its tremendous achievements as the fourth largest environmental charity in the UK; notes that it was first established in 1959 as an independent organisation supporting volunteering in a wide range of practical projects, including tree planting, pond renovation and hedgelaying and that it has grown in strength, today supporting a network of over 2000 affiliated local groups and schools and training 7500 volunteers each year; and hopes that it will continue its good work into the new millennium promoting voluntary work and protecting the environment.
