Independent Inquiry Into The Murder Of Rosemary Nelson
EDM number 485 in 1998-99, proposed by Kevin McNamara on 24/03/1999.
That this House, following the Report of the Independent Commission for Police Complaints allegations of RUC harassment of the late Mrs Rosemary Nelson, a solicitor noted for her work for human rights, notes that the IPC found RUC officers were 'hostile, evasive and disinterested' in connection with the enquiry and supports her husband Paul's comments that 'if the ICPC had no confidence in the ability of the RUC to investigate death threats against Rosemary how can my family be expected to have confidence in their ability or indeed their willingness to effectively investigate her murder'; and calls for the investigation of Mrs Nelson's murder to be removed from the RUC and put completely into the hands not merely of an independent supervising officer but of a team of officers from an independent force.
