Gm Foods And Producer Liability

EDM number 414 in 1999-00, proposed by Alan Simpson on 17/02/2000.

That this House is concerned that there is still no clear legal basis defining who in the food chain will be strictly liable for harm caused by GM food or crops; notes that farmers are being told they have no insurance cover for (i) loss in farm land values, (ii) loss of GM-free status and (iii) crop damage from cross pollination, which result from GM crop planting on their own or adjacent lands; and calls on the Government to support the GM Foods and Producer Liability Bill, making biotechnology companies full and wholly responsible for all such releases.

This motion has been signed by a total of 49 MPs, 1 of these signatures have been withdrawn.
