Women And Lung Cancer
EDM number 511 in 1999-00, proposed by Ian Gibson on 13/03/2000.
That this House notes with concern that lung cancer has overtaken breast cancer as the leading cause of cancer death among women; understands that women who smoke are twice as likely as male smokers to develop lung cancer; is concerned that smoking remains prevalent among young women; supports the Government's anti-smoking campaign; recognises that early detection of lung cancer is key to long-term survival; and calls on ministers to support trials of lung cancer screening techniques that could identify lung tumours while they are small and surgically curable.
