Safe Travel To School

EDM number 97 in 2000-01, proposed by Kerry Pollard on 13/12/2000.

That this House notes the number of secondary school students who walk to school has declined from 61 per cent. in 1975 to 53 per cent. today; further notes that the morning school run causes 20 per cent. of rush hour traffic; believes that there are greener and healthier ways of travelling to school than driving; welcomes the Government's 'THINK!' campaign to promote road safety and its commitment to cutting child deaths and serious injuries by 50 per cent.; and encourages all secondary schools to join the 1,000 who are already taking part in the RAC's Grass Routes challenge which seeks to encourage pupils to develop their own safer, greener and healthier school travel plans.

This motion has been signed by a total of 61 MPs.
