Charging Of Volunteers By The Criminal Records Bureau
EDM number 1273 in 2001-02, proposed by John McDonnell on 09/05/2002.
That this House welcomes the establishment of the Criminal Records Bureau and congratulates the Government on bringing forward legislation to safeguard against unsuitable people registering to work as volunteers, but notes with regret the Government's failure to prevent the costs of carrying out criminal records checks being passed on to potential new volunteers by umbrella registered bodies; and urges the Government to reverse its decision and make resources available for umbrella registered bodies for this purpose, in order to encourage rather than deter legitimate volunteers from coming forward.
