Action For Clean Energy At Wssd

EDM number 1299 in 2001-02, proposed by Malcolm Bruce on 14/05/2002.

That this House supports the Choose Positive Energy Campaign spearheaded by The Body Shop International and Greenpeace, which aims to secure a commitment from world leaders at the 2002 World Summit on Sustainable Development, to deliver clean, renewable energy to two billion people in the world without access to electricity services, within 10 years; calls on the Prime Minister to support this initiative at the Summit; notes that currently the UK is the third highest giver of Overseas Development Assistance money to energy, yet only 0.07 per cent. is spent on renewables; calls for the funding for this programme to be made with new ODA money; and further notes that the Export Credit Guarantee Department has facilitated the construction of fossil fuel projects in the developing world that cumulatively contribute 13.3 million tonnes of carbon to the earth's atmosphere every year.

This motion has been signed by a total of 84 MPs.
