Ethnic Minorities In Burma

EDM number 1311 in 2001-02, proposed by Simon Thomas on 14/05/2002.

That this House condemns the Burmese junta's attack on Ler Per Hur camp for internally displaced Karen people on 29th December 2001, which resulted in 300 people fleeing for their safety to Thailand; calls on the United Kingdom Government and the international community to step up pressure on the Burmese regime until there is an end to their brutal policy towards ethnic minorities and the full restoration of democracy; also the United Kingdom Government to broker negotiations between the ethnic minority groups and the ruling junta, to be held in a neutral country with either a UN or host country representative as arbitrator.

This motion has been signed by a total of 50 MPs.
