Young People And The Right To Vote
EDM number 145 in 2001-02, proposed by Lembit Opik on 12/07/2001.
That this House notes that in 21st Century Britain 16 to 17 year olds pay tax, can marry, have children, ans serve in the armed forces but are not allowed to vote for the Government that taxes them, and sends military personnel to war; further notes that many young people do not feel properly represented by the political system; and agrees with the British Youth Council's campaign to secure political rights including the right to vote at 16 years of age.
This motion has been signed by a total of 59 MPs.
