History Of Womens Suffrage
EDM number 1440 in 2002-03, proposed by Harry Cohen on 18/06/2003.
That this House congratulates the honourable Member for Crawley on her successful campaign to achieve the display in Parliament of historic material associated with women obtaining the vote in this country; notes that last summer these records were removed from display from the line of route and only after effective representations from the honourable Member for Crawley to the former Leader of the House, the Right honourable Member for Livingston, has it now been determined that these items will be displayed in a case outside the Terrace cafeteria; and considers that the honourable Member for Crawley has done Parliament and the public a service by re-establishing the display of this material significant to the United Kingdom's democratic heritage and still relevant today in order to encourage women to take part in the political process, and vote, and to remind all concerned of the intensely difficult struggle many women had to achieve suffrage.
