International Ban On All Forms Of Asbestos

EDM number 1569 in 2002-03, proposed by Michael Clapham on 10/07/2003.

That this House notes the report prepared by the Interim Chemical Review Committee, a part of the United Nations Environmental Programme, which recommended that all forms of asbestos should be subject to strict international trade controls to eliminate the risk associated with the material; further notes the United Kingdom's asbestos ban is the subject of a current challenge; and calls on Her Majesty's Government to take the lead at the next WTO meeting in calling for a world-wide ban of asbestos and materials containing it except in those very few cases where there are no suitable substitutes.

This motion has been signed by a total of 62 MPs.
