National Football Centre

EDM number 234 in 2002-03, proposed by Janet Dean on 28/11/2002.

That this House is deeply concerned that the Football Association (FA) has halted work on the National Football Centre at Rangemore near Burton upon Trent; believes that this new national training base is vitally important for the future success of English football; understands that ú20 million has already been spent on the 350-acre site, with building work underway, and greatly regrets the suggestion that it might be shelved in order that the funding can be used to support other projects; notes that the project at Rangemore has the support of leading figures in football, and would provide a centre of excellence to develop future star players for the England team; further notes that it is at least as important to have such national training facilities as it is to have a national stadium; and urges the FA to proceed with the ú80 million scheme as planned.

This motion has been signed by a total of 92 MPs, 1 of these signatures have been withdrawn.
