UK Environmental Sector

EDM number 576 in 2002-03, proposed by HELEN CLARK on 23/01/2003.

That this House welcomes the publication of the report of the DTI Innovation and Growth Team for the UK environmental sector; recognises that this is an exciting new industry of the future, with a global market worth $515 billion per annum, employing 170,000 people in the United Kindom; endorses the vital importance to the United Kingdom environment and economy of a thriving UK environment industry; supports the report's conclusion that the key driver for the sector is government policy and regulation on sustainable development; urges the Government to implement the report's recommendations promptly; and calls on the Government to ensure that the distinct interests of the environmental technology and services sector are fully represented and considered in the Environmental Sector Initiative now being set up to take forward the report.

This motion has been signed by a total of 45 MPs.
