HEADWAY'S BRAIN INJURY AWARENESS WEEK

EDM number 760 in 2002-03, proposed by Bob Russell on 24/02/2003.

That this House welcomes Headway's Brain Injury Awareness Week, 24th February to 2nd March, to highlight the fact that brain injury is the biggest cause of death and disability in young people in the UK; notes that each year an estimated one million people are diagnosed at hospital with a traumatic brain injury or head injury; further notes that the effects of brain injury are unique to each individual but can include physical difficulties such as headache or loss of balance, thinking problems such as concentration of executive function, memory loss, speech problems and rapid mood changes; welcomes the development of the National Service Framework for Long Term Conditions with its focus on neurological problems; and calls on the Government to ensure that proposed service standards are matched by resources.

This motion has been signed by a total of 91 MPs.
