150th Anniversary Of The Meteorological Office

EDM number 1376 in 2003-04, proposed by Lindsay Hoyle on 22/06/2004.

That this House congratulates the Meteorological Office on its 150th anniversary; recognises how the Met Office has grown from its beginnings, founded to provide information on the weather and marine currents to the marine community, to the comprehensive worldwide service that now exists; pays tribute to all who have worked in the Met Office and the important role it has played working with the armed forces during conflicts in order to help predict the weather, notably in determining the timing of the D-Day landings; and further recognises the Office's role, since the first live BBC television weather broadcast in 1954, in providing up-to-date weather information for people across the United Kingdom and abroad.

This motion has been signed by a total of 54 MPs.
