Olympic Truce

EDM number 1399 in 2003-04, proposed by Andrew Dismore on 24/06/2004.

That this House notes that the General Assembly of the United Nations on 31st October 2003 unanimously adopted the resolution on the Olympic Truce; believes that this is not a romantic ideal in that since 1992 when the Truce was reviewed it has met with some success, from the ceasefire in Bosnia to enable the inoculations of children in Sarajevo, onwards; notes that the Olympic Torch is passing through the United Kingdom over the weekend of 25th to 27th June; and calls on Her Majesty's Government to consider what it can do to promote the Olympic Truce during the 16 days of the Summer Olympics in Athens in August.

This motion has been signed by a total of 26 MPs.
