Unsolicited Internet Charges

EDM number 1402 in 2003-04, proposed by Gregory Campbell on 24/06/2004.

That this House condemns the significant increase in cases of internet fraud whereby some offshore companies are making expensive telephone connections, known as pop-ups, between unsuspecting users in the UK and their companies, resulting in more than 2,000 calls per day being made by UK customers to the premium rate regulator, the Independent Committee for the Supervision of Standards of Telephone Information Services (ICSTIS) to complain of additional and unsolicited and unwanted telephone bills; and calls upon HM Government to offer assistance to ICSTIS in stamping out this unacceptable practice.

This motion has been signed by a total of 57 MPs.
