Beyond The Stereotype

EDM number 1411 in 2003-04, proposed by Alan Meale on 28/06/2004.

That this House congratulates Her Majesty's Government for creating the circumstances which have enabled more disabled people to enter employment in Britain than ever before; notes however, that despite this success, blind and partially sighted people are not benefiting to the same degree as others in this positive trend; is alarmed that in today's Britain only one in four people of working age suffering such disabilities are in paid employment; applauds the publication by the Royal National Institute of the Blind and Action for Blind People of their report, Beyond the Stereotypes, which both highlights the statistics whilst demonstrating that given the right support the blind and partially sighted can work successfully in a wide variety of careers; and calls upon the Government to implement in full and forthwith the report's recommendations.

This motion has been signed by a total of 53 MPs.
