Door Step Selling
EDM number 154 in 2003-04, proposed by Paul Burstow on 27/11/2003.
That this House welcomes the Office of Fair Trading super-complaint investigation into doorstep selling, following reports from Citizens Advice (Door to Door - September 2002) and Age Concern (Sharp Selling Practices - March 2002); is appalled at the inadequacy of consumer protection for doorstep selling; and calls upon the Government to introduce legislation to provide a 14 day cooling off period for all sales in the home, the creation of a doorstep preference service and a standard and independently produced leaflet of key information to be given to all consumers whenever a doorstep sale is being made, together with a separate notice to facilitate cancellation.
