British Energy

EDM number 214 in 2003-04, proposed by Malcolm Bruce on 04/12/2003.

That this House opposes the further extension of the credit facility the Government has provided to British Energy; believes it to be inappropriate that taxpayers money should be used to bail out shareholders of an insolvent company; notes that managing nuclear liabilities has cost the DTI over ú7 billion over the past four years; and further believes that any public money available to the energy industry would be better diverted to sources of supply other than nuclear power such as renewables and combined heat and power and that the continued underwriting of nuclear power is undermining their viability.

This motion has been signed by a total of 54 MPs.
