British Heart Foundation Anti-Smoking Campaign
EDM number 469 in 2003-04, proposed by Chris Ruane on 21/01/2004.
That this House welcomes the British Heart Foundation's, Smoking Clogs Arteries, anti-smoking campaign, which highlights how every cigarette we smoke makes fatty deposits stick in our arteries; recognises that, alongside high blood pressure, high blood cholesterol levels and physical inactivity smoking is a major risk factor for coronary heart disease; recognises that smoking just three to six cigarettes each day doubles your chance of a heart attack and that smokers are more than twice as likely to have a fatal heart attack than non-smokers; and calls on the Government to take a lead in making smoking in public places socially unacceptable.
