Domestic Violence
EDM number 842 in 2004-05, proposed by Vera Baird on 07/03/2005.
That this House welcomes the launch of the NUT's guidelines paper, Silence is Not Always Golden, on tackling domestic violence; believes that, while domestic violence may occur behind closed doors, everyone has a part to play in its eradication; recognises the research evidence that shows that it is not only possible to talk to children and young people about interpersonal violence but also that there is a great need to do so; welcomes the Government's commitment under Every Child Matters to improve the well-being of children and families; and calls upon the Government to support all those who work with children to recognise and respond to child welfare concerns and through the curriculum to help schools to reduce social tolerance and normalisation of domestic violence so that it is no longer ignored.
