Pensioner Travel

EDM number 856 in 2004-05, proposed by Lindsay Hoyle on 08/03/2005.

That this House notes the advantages to pensioners in Wales, London and many cities and metropolitan districts throughout England who enjoy free public transport and bus travel; recognises that many elderly people are totally dependent on public transport and that the costs of this account for a significant portion of their disposable income; believes that the cost of introducing free pensioner travel on public transport across the United Kingdom would be in the region of ú300 million; and calls on the Chancellor to provide funding for free public transport for all pensioners during off-peak hours as part of his Budget proposals in order to improve the welfare of pensioners.

This motion has been signed by a total of 56 MPs.
