Men And Chlamydia
EDM number 2522 in 2005-06, proposed by Howard Stoate on 06/07/2006.
That this House welcomes the publication of the Men's Health Forum's report Putting Men to the Test, which highlights the need for more young men to be screened for chlamydia; notes that chlamydia has now reached epidemic levels in young people, with possibly half a million young people infected; understands that, if untreated, chlamydia can lead to severe conditions like pelvic inflammatory disease and infertility; welcomes the roll-out of the National Chlamydia Screening Programme nationwide but is disappointed that only 17 per cent. of its screens are of men when similar numbers of men and women have the disease; and urges the Department of Health to ensure that the screening programme targets young men in a systematic and proactive way in order properly to tackle chlamydia.
