Bulgarian Hijab Ban

EDM number 2663 in 2005-06, proposed by Keith Vaz on 09/10/2006.

That this House notes with concern the decision of the Bulgarian Parliamentary Anti-Discrimination Commission to rule in favour of a school that sought to ban the wearing of the hijab on its premises; further notes that this ruling will make it possible for the hijab to be banned in all state schools in Bulgaria; calls on the Bulgarian authorities to reverse this decision; and further calls on all current and prospective EU member states to show respect and tolerance for religious beliefs.

This motion has been signed by a total of 21 MPs.
