Debt: Not In Front Of The Children Campaign
EDM number 347 in 2005-06, proposed by Robert Flello on 16/06/2005.
That this House is greatly concerned that specialist children's TV channels are screening advertisements from secured loan companies, which aim to persuade the generally less well-off to take out loans using `pester power' by the young people watching those channels; commends the Debt: Not in Front of the Children campaign by the consumer finance website moneysavingsexpert.com, which is calling for specialist TV channels to withdraw immediately those advertisements and supports its petition against such advertisements that have resulted in one in three children pressuring their parents by repeating slogans from TV loan advertisements, and one in 10 pestering their parents to take out such loans.
This motion has been signed by a total of 71 MPs, 1 of these signatures have been withdrawn.
