Developments In Darfur Peace Process

EDM number 523 in 2005-06, proposed by David Drew on 06/07/2005.

That this House welcomes the news that the government of Sudan and Darfur rebels have reached agreement on a declaration of principles that will form the basis for further negotiations; is hopeful the agreement will kick-start the political process leading to a comprehensive solution to the Darfur crisis; remains concerned about the security situation; believes that security and civilian protection remain the prime objectives; is further concerned about increased fighting, escalating tensions and allegations of aerial bombardments by the Sudanese government in the East of Sudan; notes that Sudan's new interim constitution will come into effect on 9th July and a new government of national unity will be sworn in; and urges the government of national unity swiftly to implement power sharing, wealth-sharing and democracy throughout the country as set out in the comprehensive peace agreement.

This motion has been signed by a total of 37 MPs.
