Cuts At Trinity Mirror Newspapers

EDM number 961 in 2005-06, proposed by John McDonnell on 07/11/2005.

That this House is concerned at the recently announced plans to cut editorial jobs at Trinity Mirror newspapers; notes that the company made £250 million profit last year; believes that cutting jobs in news will fail to address circulation decline; further believes that such moves will lead to poorer coverage of local politics and community issues, thereby damaging local democracy and accountability; and therefore urges Trinity Mirror to abandon its plan to cut jobs and to provide adequate resources to ensure all its titles maintain a high standard of editorial coverage.

This motion has been signed by a total of 57 MPs, 1 of these signatures have been withdrawn.
