Parliament And Quangos

EDM number 1014 in 2006-07, proposed by David Amess on 28/02/2007.

That this House notes with grave concern that since the Government was elected in 1997, Parliament has lost many of its powers, which have been ceded to unelected quangos; further notes that, despite the Government having promised to reduce the number of quangos, over 110 have been created since 1997; and calls upon the Government to restore the expectation that when an elector returns an hon. Member to Parliament, that hon. Member should hold the executive to account.

This motion has been signed by a total of 39 MPs, 1 of these signatures have been withdrawn.
