Peripheral Arterial Disease
EDM number 1275 in 2006-07, proposed by Ian Gibson on 17/04/2007.
That this House recognises that Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD) is an important and common condition, which is currently under-diagnosed and under-treated in the UK; welcomes the efforts of the Target PAD group to raise public and political awareness of the disease, which affects more than 2.7 million people in the UK; is concerned that people with PAD are six times more likely to suffer a heart attack or stroke than those without the condition; believes that there is an urgent need to ensure better identification and treatment of people with PAD to reduce the burden of cardiovascular disease and help meet Government targets; and urges those involved in the review of the General Medical Services contract to ensure that PAD is recognised in the 2008 Quality and Outcomes Framework.
