Weekly Refuse Collections

EDM number 1372 in 2006-07, proposed by Nigel Evans on 27/04/2007.

That this House notes the Daily Mail's campaign to protect weekly refuse collections; further notes the potential infestation problems that fortnightly collections may cause, without necessarily increasing the productivity of recycling; recognises that the London Borough of Bexley is one of a number of local councils to achieve a high recycling rate, 41.6 per cent., with a weekly rubbish collection; urges the Government to ensure that local authorities are not pressurised into following a blanket model of fortnightly refuse collection but are allowed to decide for themselves the frequency of collection; and believes that if local authorities wish to continue with, or reintroduce, weekly refuse collections, they should have the right to do so without any direction or consequential financial burdens from central government.

This motion has been signed by a total of 45 MPs.
