Food Standards Agency Guidelines

EDM number 1687 in 2006-07, proposed by David TC Davies on 13/06/2007.

That this House notes with great concern that Asda is unable to advertise its whole fat milk range on children's television as a result of Food Standards Agency (FSA) guidelines; recognises the vital role that milk plays in ensuring children receive sufficient calcium for growth and development; notes that the Dairy Council has expressed concern over the clarity of the FSA's guidelines; further notes that the FSA's guidelines have led to honey, raisins and cheese being categorised as junk food while chicken nuggets and oven chips have been given the all clear; and, in light of these discrepancies, urges the FSA to improve its guidelines immediately to ensure that healthy, nutritious foodstuffs can be advertised during children's television programming in the future.
