Good Childhood Inquiry And Childhood Freedom
EDM number 1810 in 2006-07, proposed by Paul Burstow on 02/07/2007.
That this House welcomes the findings of the recent Good Childhood Inquiry survey by The Children's Society and its contribution to wider debate on child safety and wellbeing; is concerned that today's children may be being prevented from fully appreciating their youth and freedom because of parental anxiety; is further concerned that such restrictions may have a negative impact on children's ability to form friendships and develop social skills; is particularly alarmed by these findings in light of the UK's ranking at the bottom for peer relationships in international tables according to UNICEF; and calls on the Government to commission a further inquiry into the impact such lack of freedom may have on child wellbeing and social development.
